Community Matters

Across cultures and generations throughout history, new parents have been held in community, provided with practical help like meals, childcare, and help navigating the shift into parenthood. It is only in our modern culture that hyper-independence and productivity are valued over connection and inter-dependence. New parents today often feel ashamed and guilty for feeling overwhelmed and disoriented, believing they should be able to juggle it all and should even enjoy doing so.

I believe community is essential throughout the parenting journey. Showing up for each other in ordinary, every day ways brings much needed perspective, helps us remember what we’re going through is normal and reminds us we’re not the only ones figuring this out. I hold regular gatherings, group classes, and weekly postpartum circles included in every package to offer a place where you can build your village.

Postpartum Support Circle

I offer a weekly postpartum circle designed to help ground you during the overwhelm, celebrate the wins, and help you understand the difference between normal challenges and challenges that can be shifted or eased. In a circle, much of the most valuable support comes from other mothers who remind you that your complicated feelings are normal. The connection mothers find in circle with each other often lasts for years, and it’s always so touching to watch women who seem to have almost nothing in common find so much love for each other.

Each circle offers open, non-judgmental conversation, nervous system regulation, guided reflection, and simple restorative rituals to help you reconnect with yourself. This intimate gathering is virtual, with one in-person offering each month, and it is a time for new mothers to slow down, be held in community, and explore the identity shifts of the postpartum season. Stories are shared, tears are welcome, and laughter is medicine.

In-person and remote options for community

Aside from my weekly support circles, I offer a monthly opportunity to connect in person, expand your village, and feel supported and seen.

Client Reviews

“Let’s start with the community. It’s wonderful to have this wave of supportive shoulders before you feel the first kick. Attend at least one meetup in the prenatal period, it’s quite encouraging.”

“I didn’t know I was the kind of person who would want to be in a circle with a bunch of new moms after giving birth, but I’m finding the weekly sessions to be such a vital part of my healing. It’s been a special space that I look forward to every week.”

"Dawn made us feel like we had a tribe to help us through this process. She was super responsive and helpful during labor at home and at the hospital she advocated for us the whole way. Her care and expertise during the postpartum period were invaluable. We recommend Dawn to anyone who will listen."
