Lactation Support in the Hudson Valley · Breastfeeding Support
What I Offer
My lactation support is built for real life, and begins before birth. I am with you in the vulnerable early days and weeks when questions keep changing. I support all feeding paths: breastfeeding, combination feeding, pumping, and formula feeding, depending on your family’s goals.
Breastfeeding is often described as natural. What people don’t always tell you is that it can also be learned.
For generations, new parents were surrounded by mothers, grandmothers, sisters, and neighbors who helped them position a baby, recognize a good latch, soothe sore nipples, and remind them that what they were experiencing was normal. Today, many families leave the hospital with a newborn and a car seat, expected to figure it out on their own.
You don’t have to.
Whether your baby is hours old or several months old, whether breastfeeding is painful, overwhelming, or simply not unfolding the way you imagined, compassionate support can make an enormous difference. My role is not to judge your choices or tell you what your feeding journey should look like. My role is to help you understand what’s happening, answer your questions with evidence-based information, and support you in reaching your feeding goals.
At Deep Well Doulas Hudson Valley, I provide personalized lactation support for families throughout the Hudson Valley, offering practical guidance, reassurance, and individualized care that honors both parent and baby.
We begin before the baby arrives. Through my Prenatal Lactation Workshop, I help you understand how milk production actually works, what’s normal in the early days, and how to set yourself up for fewer surprises. We focus on a few tried and true ways to prepare in advance so you’re not trying to learn everything while exhausted and emotional.
I offer a lactation session within 24 hours after birth, when early intervention can prevent so many of the most common pitfalls in the breastfeeding journey. Often a small shift in positioning, a deeper latch, and reassurance of what is normal can make all the difference during a critical window.
Every Feeding Journey Looks Different
No two babies feed exactly alike, and no two parents have the same experience. Some babies latch immediately. Others need time, patience, and support.
You may be wondering:
Why does breastfeeding hurt?
Is my baby getting enough milk?
Why does my baby want to nurse all day?
Is my milk supply enough/Is my baby starving?
Should I pump?
When should I introduce a bottle?
Is this mastitis?
Why won’t my baby latch anymore?
How I Can Help
As a birth and postpartum doula, childbirth educator, and Certified Lactation Educator, I provide evidence-based support for a wide range of feeding challenges, including:
Painful latch
Nipple pain or damage
Positioning and latch support
Milk supply concerns
Engorgement
Inflammatory mastitis and plugged ducts
Pumping plans and flange fitting guidance
Bottle introduction or bottle refusal
Combination feeding
Feeding after cesarean birth
Breastfeeding after a difficult birth
Premature or sleepy babies

Prenatal breastfeeding education
Sometimes all a family needs is reassurance that things are going well. Other times, we troubleshoot together and create a plan that feels realistic and sustainable for your family.
What to Expect During a Lactation Visit
Every visit begins by listening.
We’ll talk about your birth, your baby’s feeding history, your concerns, and your goals. I’ll observe a feeding if appropriate, assess positioning and latch, and help identify anything that may be making breastfeeding more difficult.
Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution, we’ll work together to develop a plan that fits your family’s needs. My recommendations are grounded in current evidence while honoring your intuition, values, and lived experience.
You’ll leave with practical tools, greater confidence, and continued support.
Feeding Is More Than Nutrition
A baby comes to the breast for far more than milk and calories. They come for warmth, regulation, comfort, connection, and safety. Breastfeeding is a relationship that develops over thousands of small moments. When feeding becomes painful or stressful, it can affect a parent’s confidence just as much as it affects nutrition. Supporting breastfeeding means supporting the whole family physically, emotionally, and practically.
Evidence-Based Care Without Judgment
Every family feeds differently.
Some exclusively breastfeed. Some pump. Some supplement with donor milk or formula. Many do a combination of all three. My goal is never to convince you to feed one way or another. It is to provide accurate information, compassionate support, and evidence-based guidance so you can make informed decisions that feel right for your family.
When Should You Reach Out?
You don’t have to wait until something feels like an emergency.
Many families benefit from lactation support if:
Breastfeeding is painful.
Your baby seems frustrated at the breast.
Feedings are taking a very long time.
You’re worried about milk supply.
You’re preparing to pump or return to work.
You’d like breastfeeding support before your baby is born.
You simply want reassurance that everything is going well.
Seeking support early often prevents small concerns from becoming larger challenges.
